Wedding photography: a series of pictures tell the story. Quietly following the actions, I photograph decisive moments and playful and poetic scenes. Intense emotion and happy faces are captured and “vacuum sealed” often without being noticed. They’ll be a mosaic of memory, even decades later.

Wedding Photography Portfolio
This wedding photography portfolio represents the style of wedding photography I shoot for 2012 weddings. The images were shot on film, digitally captured, or a mix thereof. No second shooter was used in any of the weddings—I wear quiet shoes, walk fast and work hard to capture images like these. The date of the following weddings ranged from year 2000 to 2011:

Urban / City Wedding Photography
Urban wedding is exciting, and often convenient for many of your guests. Jessica and Ben had their wedding at Menton restaurant, a Barbara Lynch restaurant, in Fort Point area of Boston, easy access from Logan airport, highways and South Station (Amtrak). Beaupix Studio is located just down a short block from Menton, so planning the wedding photography was very easy for everyone. We spoke on phone a couple of times, then met to discuss the their wedding photography. We walked around the blocks and chose which spots to take pictures… while budgeting how much time to allocate for portrait. On the wedding day, we were able to produce a lot of good pictures in such a short period of time, because of good planning. Another key component of their wedding was very dim overhead lighting in the restaurant: overhead lights do not make people look good. In order to create flattering results, extra lights were needed; we used a location lighting kit typically used for commercial editorial photography, and used at the lowest brightness setting to create soft but fresh look to the ceremony and formal portrait pictures. However, I captured some photos without using any flash whenever possible to capture the all natural ambience.
In the following year, their friends Ilisa and Leigh had their wedding at Artists for Humanity EpiCenter which is located one short block away from my studio. but in the other direction. We talked on phone, met and discussed just like Jessica & Ben’s wedding. The difference was that Ilisa & Leigh’s wedding was exactly on the day Hurricane Irene arrived in Boston, so we had to be prepared for many last minute changes in plan… We had to give up all of the outdoor portraits, but we arranged with the EpiCenter management so that we could shoot portraits and bridal party photo on the top floor of the building, which was unused that day. Another tricky part about EpiCenter is that, their lighting is very dim and strongly colored (See also Shannon & Mike’s wedding, which was deep blue-themed). Without additional light, everything would look deeply colored with lots of deep shadows. So, again, I set up a location lighting setup at the lowest output to add a splash of white light as the highlight, without losing the overall mood of the decorative lighting effects.
I’m also very familiar with Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Harvard Square and other parts of the city, and I’m happy to scout nice spots to photograph portraits, either on the wedding day or as a separate session.
Farm / Beach / Countryside Wedding Photography
Bridget and Jesse had their wedding in a farm on the beach in Little Compton, RI. Since their site was a bit too far to do a walk-through, I did research on google and flickr to learn the feel of the space, and arrived at the venue a bit early to finalize the details. We also discussed that the best time to plan the portrait session was about one hour before sunset, so that a variety of looks could be captured before and after sunset. Outdoor wedding is challenging during day, because people squint and blink a lot due to strong sunlight and wind. So, I made sure to capture plenty of close shots to choose from, and also captured plenty of wide angle “ambience” shots to record the feel of the event. Bridal party photo was taken just after sunset, in the field with almost no light available. Again, I used a location lighting setup, typically used for commercial assignments, at the lowest brightness setting to balance with the colorful sunset sky.
Dawn and Adam were married on a private property in Plymouth, MA, also on a summer day. Their wedding was quite casual and relaxed, so I captured more candid shots and less formal ones.
Anne and Rich had their wedding at Cloisters castle in Lutherville, MD. but I had a trip to Baltimore for a commercial work a few months prior to their wedding, so we could actually visit the venue for a walk-through. The castle had many interesting features that could be used for photography, and we planned out some, and left some for more spontaneous ideas. The actual wedding day was beautiful overcast day, so we had many great images without using much additional lights. (Much of their wedding was captured on medium format film, and some flash was necessary, although many of the photos I would capture digitally, without flash, today.) Since the film equipment was considerably bulkier than today’s digital setup, I chose to travel by Amtrak. I arrived in Maryland the day before, and returned to Boston the day after the wedding.
Engagement Photography
In all but the most basic options I offer, you can choose engagement or a portrait session. This option allows to have an opportunity to work together before your wedding day. If you want to photograph on a location far from your wedding venue, or try something different, a shoot on a separate day gives you the most flexibility and also minimizes the stress on your wedding day.
Surprise Proposal
If you decide on a surprise proposal, photograph the very moment without being noticed. It takes some planning, but I’ll make it easy for you!
About Boston Wedding Photographer Ryuji Suzuki
Before digital photography became common practice, Ryuji shot weddings on film, which required very different working style and skill set than today’s digital imaging. At the beginning of the digital era, he aggressively incorporating new all-digital workflow to his wedding packages, and developing new styles that emphasizes more on the emotion, ambience and soft yet grand scale images. But he hasn’t forgotten the beauty of film work. It’s inconvenient, long turnaround time, and expensive. It is not about which offers better image quality. That debate belonged to the past decade. Now, film simply forces me to work in different mindset and captures different styles of images. So, Ryuji still offers packages that mix modern styled digital photography spiced up with a bit of film coverage.
Ryuji has covered weddings of many religious styles, literally from A to Z: atheist to Zoroastrian. Other styles include traditional Chinese, Christian, Greek Orthodox, Hindu, Jewish Orthodox, as well as modern abbreviated versions, and multi-religious/cultural styles.
Unlike most other wedding photographers, Ryuji actually makes living shooting photography full time. On weekdays, he is shooting commercial photography for editorials, advertising, fashion, etc., or fine-art photography, creating art, winning cash prizes, selling prints and exhibiting work. The diversity of the work adds to the range of style and creativity shown in his wedding photography, which certainly incorporates photojournalistic style, but not limited to it.
He travels anywhere for work, but his studio is Fort Point district of Boston, very near South Station. Within two blocks from the studio, EpiCenter is great for medium to large size weddings, and Menton restaurant for small intimate weddings. Other favorite venues are any of the local museums (particularly ICA, Insitiute of Contemporary Art, and Museum of Science), Algonquin Club (Boston, MA), Boston Public Library (Back Bay, Boston), Hammond Castle (Glocester, MA), Crane Estate Castle Hill (Ipswitch, MA), Angel Orensanz Foundation (New York City), Cloisters Castle (Lutherville, MD).

Testimonials
Daryush M. on 8/4/2010.
Ryuji shot our wedding, and we were very, very satisfied with the quality of the pictures, from lighting to content to framing. Ryuji seems to have a keen sense for capturing a moment without being in the moment, if you know what I mean. As with any photographer, it is highly recommended to speak with him or her prior to your engagement to agree on the type of shots (head, full-body, avant garde, traditional, etc.) you are looking for.
Ryuji is technologically savvy, but also able to communicate with those doing photo shoots or image manipulation for the first time. He spent a lot of time after our wedding with additional requests that my wife and I had.
Our families continue to marvel at our wedding pictures, which truly transport us back to that special day.
Great wedding photographer, thank you Ryuji! by Carolyn W.
Good luck to Ryuji on growing Beaupix.
When I flip through the pages of my wedding album, not only am I seamlessly transported back to that day, but I am awestruck at the thoughtful way in which someone has documented it. It was difficult for me to be in so many places at once throughout my wedding day; I was afraid that I would miss something. When I thumb through all of the photos from the evening, it is clear that Ryuji had no difficulty being everywhere at every moment. Thanks to his commitment in capturing as many moments as humanly possible, reliving our special day is attainable.
Ryuji Suzuki of Beaupix is fantastic by Rich H.
We were exceptionally pleased with Ryuji’s work, from both a quality perspective and a price perspective. Ryuji’s attention to detail for every photograph, from properly arranging the scene to capture the best image through to making prints resulted in stunning and memorable photos of our wedding. We receive constant compliments on the beautiful images that Ryuji produced.
Ryuji captured our event with a combination of digital, traditional 35 MM, and medium format photography. This mixture provided the most appropriate format for the variety of photographs taken. In particular, the medium format black and white film, an option not offered to us by other photographers, produced incredible large prints.
Ryuji was easy to work with throughout, very flexible and responsive to our needs, and charged us very fair prices that couldn’t be matched for the quality of work he delivered.
Phenomenal Wedding Photos Jojo T.
The photos we got from Beaupix were phenomenal. I look forward to doing business with them again. The service was great, the prices were reasonable and as I said before, the photos were phenomenal. We got a series of portraits done at the Arnold Arboretum, some family portraits, some couple shots, and a number of artsy portraits for our wedding. The photos that they did for the wedding itself captured the most important moments and I look forward to enjoying them for many years to come. JES
Great wedding photographer by Theresa D.
Ryuji did a really great job with our wedding pictures. He worked really hard to get the lighting just right whenever he could (I think he would have controlled the clouds outside if he could have!) and made some really great pictures. Me and my family will enjoy them.
Beaupix Studio (Photographer) is fantastic! by Julian K.
We hired Ryuji from Beaupix Studio to be our photographer for our wedding. He showed up on time (very important!) and was very fun to work with & laid-back and made you feel comfortable while he was snapping photos around you during the entire wedding. He took both colored and black-and-white photos for us. The colors of the photos have the right hues and the black & white ones have the perfect gray tone. Besides taking photos of us and families and friends, he also took photos of objects and scenes that showed the beauty that we didn’t even realize. Without a doubt he has a set of keen, professional eyes with exceptional creativity. All the photos have a timeless feeling and we are so glad we hired him to capture special moments of our lives. Strongly recommend!!!!
Wedding pictures by Hwa S.
My wedding pictures were simply gorgeous. He picked just the right setting for black and white pictures whereas colors vibrant on others. I wanted photojournalistic pictures and that is what he delivered! I am very happy with some of the unplanned “capture-the-moment” pictures that turned out to be really good. The photographer was very detail oriented and accommodating. Overall, I cannot be happier with the photographer. HJS
Photographer’s note: Hwa and Ralf’s wedding was in Manhattan. We pulled filming permits to shoot portraits in Grand Central Terminal, Times Square, SOHO, and other areas in NYC.
